There’s always room for Dialogue and Discussions to continue”
These were the words of Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts-Rosy Akbar while speaking as Chief Guest at the Fijian Teachers Association 85th Annual Delegates Conference held in Suva yesterday.
This year’s Theme is: “Together we build a Prosperous Fiji”
The President of the Fijian Teachers Association -Netani Druavesi took the opportunity to address some of the concerns on the various reforms introduced by the Education Ministry`.
“It is now evident by the outcome that the reform has been Anti-I-taukei as some of the changes in the schools leadership position. About 60% have shown displacement of I-taukei Teacher Leaders. I-taukei are over 50% of the Fijian population and previously proportionately had leadership posts in more than 50% school leadership positions. It is vividly clear that an Anti-I-taukei Ethnic cleansing program is in place”
In response to the statement-the Minister for Education-Rosy Akbar says its all about finding a common ground.
“There’s always room for dialogue, I once again take note of the concerns you raised and I think we’re having discussions from the time I joined office and this discussion will continue. In my term I might not be able to find answers to all your issues but I can assure you that your concerns will be looked at and let’s find a common ground”
The four Day FTA Conference will end this Friday.
