The Ministry of Forestry is behind schedule in its “Four Million trees in Four years” initiative.
This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Pene Baleinabuli yesterday.
The initiative is governments commitment to grow the forestry sector by planting all types of trees.
I believe we have planted two hundred thousand trees since January but it below the target and the ministry is working on gaining greater attraction and momentum,” said Baleinabuli.
Baleinabuli said the initiative cannot be successful without the active participation of the general public.
“The public has to be part of it, government cannot do it alone,” he said.
Belainabuli said the public can be part of the initiative by planting a tree during a special occasion like birthdays, graduation or even in the memory of a loved one that has passed.
