The Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel, its board members and the entire football fraternity is in mourning.
The entire fraternity is saddened to learn the death of former Nasinu, Suva and Tailevu Naitasiri player Jone Serukalou who passed away last night at his home.
He started his career playing for Nadoga in early 80s and moved to play Suva before joining Nasinu and Tailevu Naitasiri in late 90s.
Patel acknowledged the supreme contribution by Serukalou in the football arena.
“It’s a huge loss. He had been a great footballer and an inspirational leader of his time.
“I convey my heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolence to the grieving family and I pray to the Almighty that his soul rests in peace.”
Former national team captain and teammate Tagi Vonolagi said Jone was a rugged defender and always played with his heart.
“He was a cartoon in the team and will always be remembered.”
“Our thoughts and prayers goes out to his families.”
Nasinu Football Association president Oneal Chand said it was sad day for Nasinu fans as we have lost a great player.
“Indeed it is a sad loss for Nasinu FA and Fiji football as he contributed a lot to the Nasinu during his playing career,”
Chand said Serukalou would be always remembered for his passion and commitment for football.
“Our deepest condolence goes to his family at this difficult time.”
Serukalou was part of the Suva Masters in the Vodafone Southern Veteran’s League.
His grandson Nasoni Mereke is currently playing for Nasinu football team.
