Viliame Matai  graduated with distinction from an 18 months officer training at the Australian Army’s Royal Military College, Duntroon last month.

The 25 year-old overcame injury to be ranked fourth on the Order of Merit List making him  the second international trainee to join this list.

The young lad from Nadoria Village in Rewa also won two awards including the award for the outstanding international trainee and the Stuckey Mitchell Award for the trainee officer who has demonstrated the most commendable level of leadership, military ability and physical fitness.

He is the first Fijian to win an award at Duntroon since the late Major Tevita Daurewa in 1998.

Matai is among the five young Fijian soldiers from the Republic of Fiji Military Force to attend this training at one of the world’s most respected military training institutions.

The five Fijian servicemen who joined the world-class officer training establishment were Viliame Matai, Ratu Henry Qasevakatini, Malakai Lakoenailesilesi, Jeremaia Lakoinavuli and Vilimoni Masikau.
