Fijians giving false information for the purpose of receiving benefits from Government, will be punished.

Only those Fijians whose homes were directly damaged or destroyed, or whose possessions were lost or damaged by Tropical Cyclone Josie and Keni – are eligible to receive assistance under the ‘Homes-CARE’ initiative.

However, those that give false information – will be liable to pay up to 20 thousand dollars in fines, or an imprisonment of up to 10 years.

Spot checks will be conducted by the Ministry of Economy audit teams, to verify claims.

Concerned Fijians can also dial 2273 – to report suspected abuse of the ‘Homes-CARE’ program.
