The Fiji Women’s Forum welcomes the announcement of the women candidates that are contesting in next months General Election.
Spokesperson for the Soqosoqo Vakamarama I-Taukei- Adi Finau Tabakaucoro wishes all the Women candidates the very best and says Fiji has always been ready for a Woman Prime Minister.
“Its good that the number of women candidates has increased and I wish them all the luck that they will be successful in their bid to be elected to Parliament because we need a lot more women in Parliament,” said Adi Finau Tabakaucoro- Spokesperson SSV.
General Secretary of the National Council of Women Fiji-Fay Volatabu said she hopes the increase in women candidates translates into women going into Parliament.
The 2014 General Elections had 44 Women Candidates contesting compared to 56 women candidates who will be contesting the Election next month.
“We’re quite excited as the increase but what we’re hoping for that this increase translates into women going into parliament and the increase and it depends mostly on the people who will be voting we just don’t vote women but we also look at the caliber of women we putting in because we need more women who have leadership qualities that help into more of a stable, more prosperous, and a Fiji that is Forward looking. We believe that when we have more women leadership in Parliament we look at issues at a more Holistic Manner,” said Fay Volatabu- General Secretary-NCWF.
