Fiji Swimming is pleased to name the following swimmers and officials to the NZ Open Championships in Auckland this July. The NZ Open Championship is a qualifier event for the 2018 Youth Olympics Games (YOG), which will be held in Buenos Aires in September 2018.
The NZ Open championship is scheduled to be held in Auckland from the 2nd through to the 6th of July and Fiji Swimming will be fielding a four (4) member swimming squad with one (1) official to the event.
Fiji Swimming President, Mr Ben Rova said, “The championship is a Youth Olympics Games qualifying event and we are giving our swimmers all the exposure and opportunities to make the qualifying times for the YOG, which will be held in Bueno Aires in September 2018”.
The team for the YOG qualifier event in NZ is:
1. Netani Ross – Mako
2. Temafa Yalimaiwai – Tritons
3. Rosemarie Rova – Barracuda
4. Moana Wind – Orca
5. Rosemary Rova – Coach
The participation by the Fiji Swimming Team has been made possible through Government and the Fiji National Sports Commission who have provided the necessary funds as part of the team’s 2019 Pacific Games preparations.
Fiji Swimming also wishes to congratulate Mrs. Trisa Cheer-Dunn on her appointment as a Swimming Technical Official to the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. This is a personal milestone for Mrs. Cheer-Dunn and for Fiji Swimming in having one of our very own officiating at a high level International competition.
Trisa will also be a Technical official at the Oceania Swimming Championships in PNG this month, where Fiji Swimming is sending a team of 22 swimmers and 6 officials.
Fiji Swimming is also grateful to the grant given by Government through FNSC for the FJ$200,000 funding of a new Electronic Score Board to be installed soon at the National Aquatic Centre.
This is to be used for the Junior Pan Pacific Games which Fiji Swimming is Co-Organizing with US Swimming, to be held here in Suva from August 23-27, 2018.
