India’s relationship with Fiji continues to strengthen.
This is after the Prime Minister – Voreqe Bainimarama, held a bilateral meeting with India’s Minister of External Affairs – Sushma Swaraj, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister and Minister Swaraj – discussed Fiji’s extensive national election preparations, thanking the government of India for its assistance, past and present, in supporting and overseeing the electoral process.
India, the world’s largest democracy, is taking a lead role in this year’s elections as co-chair, with Australia and Indonesia, of the Multinational Observation Group. The two leaders spoke about the importance of free and fair elections.
He further thanked the Indian government, particularly their generosity in its backing of Fiji’s micro, small and medium enterprises, lending its vast technical expertise, and contributing over $5.9 million to Government’s highly-successful “Micro and Small Business Grant” program.
