Fiji is ready for the work ahead.
These were the words of the Prime Minister of Fiji Voreqe Bainimarama whilst addressing the High Level Segment of the 40th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland this week.
Bainimarama says that Fiji while being guided and united by the promise of the 2013 Constitution, stands among the most profound examples in the world of the power of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to inspire and motivate people across borders, across oceans and across societies.
He encouraged and urged the nations represented at the council to think outside of political arrangements and to consider how together we can en grain deep cultural ways in the application of human rights.
Fiji is the first Pacific island nation to be elected into the Human Rights Council.
