Four men are undergoing trial before the High Court in Suva.
Wame Baleimakogai, Napolioni Leiloma, Luke Sorovakatini and Sanjay Lal are charged with the alleged rape of two women on the 9th of October 2016 in Tailevu.
The trial had to be put on hold this morning after one of the complainants was not present to give evidence.
There were allegations that the father of the fourth accused, Sanjay Lal had bribed the witness not to attend court.
Hira Lal the father of the fourth accused Sanjay Lal was remanded from mid-day till 4.30 pm by Judge Justice Salesi Temo after allegations were brought before the court that Lal had interfered with a prosecution witness.
Justice Temo stated that the courts time was wasted this morning when the second victim failed to appear in court on allegations that she was bribed by Hira Lal of $500 to not attend court.
A bench warrant was issued for the second victim and the father of the accused to attend court this afternoon.
Hira Lal told the court that did not approach the second victim however Justice Temo said he would not risk interference with the trial and told Lal to get a lawyer as the police are investigating the allegation and he would re-look at the remand order this afternoon.
Sanjay lal with Wame Baleimakogai, Napolioni Leiloma and Luke Sorovakatini are charged for the alleged rape of two women on the 9th of October 2016 in Tailevu.
Baleimakogai and Leiloma are charged with three counts of rape, Sorovakatini is charged with one count of rape while Lal is charged with a count each of rape and assault with intent to rape.
State lawyer Taitusi Tuenuku while delivering his opening statement said that the four men took advantage of the two victims vulnerability and allegedly raped them in a isolated place.
