The Fiji Sports Commission has given an extra $200,000 to Fiji Rugby Union last week for the Sevens World Cup preparations.

The donation is an additional to the initial budget amount of $300,000 that was allocated for the National Sevens team.

Executive Chairman- Peter Mazey says the fund was not applied but given to assist the side.

“We have given another $300,000 to the Fiji Rugby Union for the World Cup. It is for the preparation and was not applied like usual budget amounts but we figured that they needed some more money so we gave it last week.”

Mazey adds they also managed to raise an extra $77,000 for the team at a recent conference.

“There was an interesting Topic conference that happened last week where all top executives met and were able to raise $77,000 for the Fiji National Sevens side. It is is for the players and not development.”

The 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens will be held on the 20th to the 22nd of next month.
