Viliame Mata is relishing his first Rugby World Cup with the Flying Fijians.

The Rio Olympics Gold medalist brings power and finesse to the second row and is looking forward to the opening match versus the Wallabies this Saturday.

Currently playing for Scotland based Guinness Pro14 side Edinburgh Rugby, Viliame Mata made his debut for Fiji at the 2014 Wellington Sevens.

From the 7s to 15s, the 29 year old is simply stoked to be in the Flying Fijians squad to the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Since joining Edinburgh Rugby, Mata has been affectionately known as “Big Bill” Mata owing to his power and ability to break through defenses.

This will be the first time Mata will play at Rugby World Cup.

So far he has only heard about the excitement and atmosphere around the World Cup and has been taking advice from his mates who have been to the past World Cups.

Mata will be key for Flying Fijians in the forward specially the line-outs and scrum and wants to make this World Cup a memorable one by slaying a giant and causing a major upset.
