An expert in open and distance learning, Dr Sanjay Mishra from the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has been invited to give a public lecture at the Fiji National University (FNU) on the topic ‘Open Educational Resources in the South Pacific’.
Dr Mishra has over 25 years of experience in design, development and management of open and distance learning programmes. The senior academic, with a blend of academic and professional qualifications in library and information science, distance education, television production and training and development, has been promoting the use of educational multimedia, eLearning and the use of open educational resources (OER) and open access to scientific information around the world.
Associate Dean Learning and Teaching Enhancement at the Centre for Learning & Teaching Enhancement (CLTE) FNU, Dr Deepak Prasad said it would be a great honour to have Dr Mishra speak on the educational opportunities available in the Pacific. The public lecture will make a case for a Pacific approach to OER, and urge setting up of a hub for OER in the Pacific to curate and develop level specific and curriculum specific OER. As English is the predominant language in the region, such an approach fits within the regional collaboration framework and priorities. Using data from a survey conducted at the Fiji National University, the presentation will also focus on pathways for FNU to lead and participate in the regional collaboration.
