The Inaugural 2019 Disability Gala Awards was held at the Holiday Inn in Suva last night.
Chief Guest -Minister for Health-Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the event marked a new chapter in the history of Fiji to celebrate the achievements of extraordinary individuals and colleagues who rose above the odds to produce excellently in their own disciplines.
He added as Fiji commits to move from recognition to realization of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we acknowledge our Nation’s commitment in ‘Leaving No one Behind.
Waqainabete said all of them reminded him of the great Helen Keller, a Woman who is known around the world as a symbol of courage in the face of overwhelming odds,
6 Awards Categories were up for Grabs at the event.
The Sportsperson of the year Award went to Merewalesi Rodan and the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Pacific Disability Forum CEO-Setareki Macanawai.
Waqainabete also congratulated “United Blind Persons of Fiji” for organizing and hosting the event.
