Della Shaw-Elder has been invited by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to officiate at the 2018 IWF Senior World Championships in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, when the competition starts on Thursday 01st November.
While at the Championships, Della is presenting a progress update to the IWF Congress, on the 2019 IWF Junior World Championships, which will be held in Suva from 1st to 8th June.
Della has established her credibility, as a referee at the World level and both Della and Weightlifting Fiji (WF) are excited that Della has been extended the invite.
This is the second time Della has been invited by IWF to officiate at the World Level. Her first world championship as a Technical Official was at the IWF Junior World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan earlier this year.
The upcoming World Championship will be Della’s third major International competition this year. In April she also officiated at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Della was also asked to be part of the jury at the Commonwealth Championships in 2017. Being on the panel of juries is the highest honour for a Technical Official in the sport of Weightlifting.
These invites are taking Della one step closer to officiating at the 2020 Olympics.
Della is also the only female IWF Category One Referee in the Pacific. She achieved this status in 2014.
Della said “she’s grateful to IWF for giving her the opportunity and also to WF for her nomination. This competition is the start for the qualifications for the Olympic games with new weight categories. I am really looking forward to this”
Della is thankful to IWF, CWF, OWF, Fiji National Sports Commission, FASANOC and WF for giving her the opportunity to officiate and referee at this International level.
