The impasse between Weightlifting Fiji, Levuka Weightlifting Club and Eileen Cikamatana continues.

Today in a statement Weightlifting Fiji President Atma Maharaj said Cikamatan was never asked by WF to relocate to Suva and train with the new Head Coach, before the boycott.

Maharaj said they had not even discussed anything with Eileen Cimakamatana or Paul Coffa from the Oceania Weightlifting Institute for Cikamatana to relocate to Suva under the new coach.

Maharaj added there was absolutely zero communication in regards to such a request.

The Weightlifiting Fiji President said they would like to correct Cikamatana’s statement that she was suspended because she refused to train with the appointed new National Head Coach from Iran, in Suva.

According to this statement from Weightlifitng Fiji, Cikamatana was actually allowed to continue to train at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute but with co-ordination by the Head Coach, Hossein Tavakoli visiting her at the training centre in Noumea.

Meanwhile, Cikamatana released a statement last week after being invited to a British High Commission function regarding the royal visit as part of a ‘women’s empowerment’ theme.

Cikamatana said she would not be able to attend the function as she is overseas.

She said women’s empowerment was something that she greatly aspired to but sadly Fiji Weightlifting does not have these same principles as they suspended her.

Cikamatana said if she wants to be part of Weightlifiting Fiji then she would have to apologise in writing, her apology is to be made public, agree to be disciplined and to have a reinstated IOC scholarship – she must agree to relocate to Suva immediately and come under the direction of the head coach

Weightlifiting Fiji said they are proud to have not only empowered Cikamatana but several other women athletes and officials, within its organisation, to be the best they can be.

Atma Maharaj said they provided Cikamatana and other athletes a due process by which they can return to Weightlifting Fiji and represent Fiji again.
