The Chief Justice – Anthony Gates paid a formal visit to the President of the Federal Court of Switzerland – Ulrich Meyer, in Lo-zann, Switzerland, yesterday.
Accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Fiji to Geneva – Nazhat Shameem Khan, the Director of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission – Ashwin Raj, and Director Legal Aid – Shahin Ali, – the Chief Justice discussed judicial education and reform, court recording and transparency of court decisions, and methods of judicial appointment, with the President of the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland.
The Federal Supreme Court is the highest court in Switzerland, and hears all appellate matters, including human rights cases. The delegation was then taken on a tour of the Federal Supreme Court building, its courtrooms, and library, and hosted to a reception by the President of the Court.
The Federal Supreme Court building is of notable historic and architectural interest.
