The Bau Central College in Tailevu was today officially opened by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
Most of the children from the nearby villages of Mokani, Naila, Ovea and Cautata attend the Bau Central College.
The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama continued to highlight the importance of Education.
In the opening of the Bau Central College, Bainimarama stressed the important of education to students, parents and teachers who turned out in numbers.
He encouraged them and the teachers as well to stand behind young people in the area of learning.
“I believe that the care and education of our young Fijians is something that must always rise above the political fray. We should always support any and all programs that benefit young Fijians, but we should make promises about education in Fiji that are responsible and realistic because education is just as important and i know every Fijian who has raised a child and has put them that child through school agrees with me on that.”
He also highlighted the biggest advantage of the free education system in place.
“I’ve said many time before my single proudest achievements as as Prime Minister has been making education free at the primary and secondary school level for all Fijian students. That initiative combined with our free text books and subsidized transportation to school put a record number of Fijians in the classrooms.”
Bainimarama reassured the people of Mokani and neighboring villages when students complete their education at the Bau Central College, they will have opportunity at their feet like at no time before in the history of Fijian education.
The Bau central College was built to the tune of $1.6 million dollars.
