The Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) organised their Women in Leadership series in 2019 after much thought.
The aim was to promote women to key leadership roles by providing them with opportunities to listen to and interact with women who can share their experiences and journeys by inspiring confidence.
The inaugural event was launched by the Honourable Minister for Industry, Trade &Tourism; Local Government; Housing & Community Development Premila Devi Kumar in March. That event was a sell-out event in less than 2 days. The FIA is committed to running this series on a quarterly basis.
BSP Life (Fiji) Limited has signed a sponsorship agreement with the FIA for this series.
Shayne Sorby BSP Life’s General Manager Legal & Compliance said “This sponsorship aligns well with our theme of “Grow with BSP Life”. It is certainly an honour for us to support the FIA and their commitment to the Women in Leadership series. We are confident that those who attend will find the information sharing sessions and networking valuable to growing both personally and professionally in their careers.”
“With 30% of females represented at executive management level, 40% at management level and more than 50% of our employees females, we are really excited to share our values with the FIA Women In Leadership series.”
“We look forward to the FIA Women in Leadership events and encourage both men and women to participate.”
The FIA President Zarin Khan noted that since the inception of the Institute in 1972 there have been 34 Presidents of which 5 have been women. The current Council has 1 female member. The Institute also appointed their first female Executive Director in February this year after 47 years of establishment.
He continued “As the premier professional Accounting body in Fiji and within the region the FIA recognises the need for more women in leadership roles in all fields.”
Council member and Chair of the Women’s Initiatives Committee Renu Chand added “In 1995 the FIA had 16% female members and at the end of 2018 this has increased to 38%: a growth of 1% per annum over the past 24 years. That is why the FIA has set up a committee to focus and support our female membership base.”
“During this series we are also supporting our communities which is aligned to the FIA Strategic Plan of an active and devoted sense of duty to our members and communities.”
The next events in the Women in Leadership series will be held on Monday 03 June in Suva and Tuesday 04 June in Nadi.
These events will feature a world class speaker Priya Singh who is proudly Fijian and she is the youngest GM at Fonterra (the world’s largest exporter of dairy products) at the age of 29
