The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Veena Bhat-nagar officiated at the Lok Geet Sammelan organized by the Nakasi Sanatan Mothers Club at the Nakasi Sanatan Hall recently.

Bhatnagar highlighted that the Fijian Government has allowed every citizen to practice and express their religion and cultures without hindering their identity.

She applauded the Nakasi Mothers Club for playing a significant role in keeping the Indian culture alive in the form of folk singing, which has its own richness in diversity and history.

Bhatnagar said that it is important for the Fijian Government to promote women’s economic empowerment because without it, half our population is left behind in terms of development.

She stressed the importance of women’s empowerment to enhance national development. She reminded the women’s group of the critical role women played in any development ‑ be it institutional, in the community or at the national level.
