More than 3000 residents along Vunicuicui Road can now expect improved access, especially during rainy weather, following the completion of the upgrade.

Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) is working under the Fiji Roads Authority Maintenance programme to provide access to Central, Northern and the Eastern Divisions.

FHH crews worked on a 2,000square-metre section of Vunicuicui Road, which is five kilometres outside Labasa Town. Works included widening the road, stabilising the section with cement and then sealing it. Drainage works were also carried out.

Residents, the majority of whom are sugarcane farmers, say that when it rained in the past, the road would be filled with potholes that were impossible to avoid and sugarcane trucks would be stuck on the road for days.

The farmers expect that with the completion of the upgrade, these problems to an end.
