This after the Mataqali leased their land under the Land Bank to allow for Fiji Airports Limited to utilise the land for the extension of the Nausori Airport.
Speaking in itaukei, Prime Minister Bainimarama expressed his appreciation to the clan for their support and through this partnership they are assisting Government in modernising Fiji.
Sharing similar sentiments, Attorney General and Minister for Civil Aviation Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this is historic occasion for both parties and to allow the leasing of the land will contribute to economic activity within Nausori.
“The runaway in Nausori airport is currently small for 737 planes that take off from Nausori in can only take limited load however by accessing this land the runaway will now be extended to 2,100 metres.”
“This will mean that Fiji Airports Limited will use $60million to lengthen the runaway it will be compliant with International standards and this allows for more aircraft landing with more safety procedures in place.”
AG thanked the mataqali for their support in modernising Fiji and this will contribute to the economy.
This development will increase economic activity for the areas in Nausori and also will create employment for members of the community.
The terminal in the airport will also be extended similar to the new Nadi International Airport.
Prior to this, in 2013 the 10 acre land was gazetted and according to the Turaga ni Mataqali Josefa Rainima they had hope in Government and today was worth the wait.
“We would like to thank government for their support and to receiving this amount is blessing.”
