Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar today officiated at the launch of the University of the South Pacific (USP’s) Health Week at the campus in Suva.
The yearly Health Week is organised by the USP Campus Life in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to encourage and discover new ways towards improving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and state of mind for its staff and students.
While speaking at the event, Rosy Akbar said building a healthy population was the ultimate way to building a strong and a prosperous nation.
Akbar challenged the USP staff and students to take ownership of their health, and contribute towards a healthy Fijian population.
“The organising of such events will greatly contribute towards the Ministry of Health and Medical Service’s commitment towards the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s) which accounts for the 80 per cent of the total deaths that occurs in Fiji,” Akbar said.
The USP Health week is scheduled from 7th to 10th May, 2018.
