The recipients, including two government officials from Fiji, have been awarded Masters Scholarships under the Pacific Leaders’ Educational Assistance for Development of State (Pacific-LEADS) programme – which is funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Laisa Matagi, from the Ministry of Waterways and Environment will be pursuing a Masters in Environmental Sciences at University of Tsukuba while Adi Arieta Latianara from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services will pursue a Masters of Arts in International Development at Nagoya University.

Together with two recipients from Vanuatu, one from Nauru and one from Tuvalu, Matagi and Latianara will depart Fiji tomorrow to undertake a two-year Masters programme in Japan.

The programme will also include internship at Japanese public institutions during the duration of study.
