FIFA Council member and Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel wants to see two spots from Oceania Football Confederation in the FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Fiji FA Media, Patel said at the moment there was one and half spot but they were looking at converting the half into two.
“If we can convert it into two that will benefit Oceania and this will only be possible if at Oceania the eleven nation gets together and become stronger footballing nation around the world and that will give confidence to the confederation to give one of their half spot away,”
“If you see now South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) out of ten teams they have five spots so fifty percent of their team’s definitely qualify for the World Cup, “said Patel
Patel said this was his first four year term for him and would look into making it possible.
“This is my first four year team and this is what we will focus in for the growth of Oceania football.”
