The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation last Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lautoka Golden Age Home Trustees .
The signed agreement between the Ministry and Lautoka Golden age Home Trustee will see a portion of the trustees’ leased land given to the Director of Lands to enable the construction of a women shelter which will be a safe haven for women victims of domestic violence.
Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Josefa Koroivueta said “This is the first step towards bringing the project to a realization ever since its initial plans came about in the last 2 years and the Ministry is thankful to the Trustees of the Golden Age Home for signing the agreement”.
This is a joint project between the Fijian government and the Soroptimist International where the Soroptimist International will fully fund the construction of the Women Shelter.
Meanwhile the Director for Tranquil Textile Company, Brad Wilson was present at the Golden Age Home in Lautoka with his wife and two children to officially handover a massive amount of garments, beanies, cardigans and scarfs for the senior citizens across the 3 state homes and the Children’s Home under the Ministry of Women.
“The Ministry is thankful for the kind gesture from Mr. Brad and his family and the Tranquil Textile Company and this will greatly benefit the senior citizens and the children especially in this cold season” Dr. Koroivueta said.
Also present at Golden Age Home were the home managers for the children’s home across Fiji to receive their donated items.
The team later visited the St. Minas Home and Treasure Home to deliver their garments.
