Welcoming a child into this world is a special moment in life that one wouldn’t want to miss – especially for parents.

So in the 2018-2019 National Budget – the Government has taken into consideration this special and momentous occasion – by increasing the maternity leave to 98 days and giving fathers – 5 days paternity leave – that can be taken three months before or three months after the birth of the child.

In addition to the family oriented national budget – $1000 will be granted to mothers with a household income that is below $30 000.

Sayed-Khaiyum said this will incentivize people to register their babies at birth.

For mothers to be able to access the $1000 – they must provide a birth certificate.

Not only does ease the financial expenses of a mother – but also encourages a culture of savings.

The initiatives will come into effect from the 1st of January 2019.
