He congratulated the Law graduates of the University of the South pacific as he granted their petitions for admission to the Bar.
“As new members of the Bar I congratulate you as many of your friends and colleges will do also. It is your day, your achievement. No doubt there have been many obstacles and difficulties along the way you have faced. Strength, steadiness, and ultimately success, grow from going through and overcoming difficulties. You must continue to strive, and I hope you will do so with decency, dignity and honesty,” said Chief Justice.
While speaking to the graduates, Gates emphasized on the importance of giving back to society.
“Give something back to society. You have reached today’s achievement for yourself. People sometimes talk glibly of social responsibility but deliver their helpful good deeds with a glazed eye and with no intent registered. Such work is not just another box to tick,” says Mr Gates.
Judicial officers from various courts were also present on the bench to witness the admission as the Chief Justice thanked the families of all counsel before closing the ceremony.
