A high pressure system together with a low pressure system to the far southwest of Fiji generates and directs moderate to heavy southerly swells towards the group.
Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain just to the west of Fiji is
currently moving towards the group. Associated cloud and rain affects the group.
Meanwhile, an embedded low along the trough is expected to bring about more heavy rain, squally thunderstorms with strong and gusty winds over the group from later today.
Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Strong southeast to northeast winds with average speeds of 40km/hr
with momentary gusting to 55km/hr from later today.
For Yasawa and Mamanuca, eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu and
Periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.
For the rest of Fiji:
Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms. Rain expected to become frequent and heavy with squally thunderstorms from later today.
Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. Rough seas. Sea flooding during high tides expected over low lying coastal areas of Kadavu, Beqa, Vatulele, Southern Lau group, Mamanuca
group, southern and western Viti Levu.
