70 percent of Women in Fiji went through physical abuse in 2012.

These were sentiments shared by the Permanent Secretary of Women, Dr Josefa Koroivueta while handing utensils and furniture to the Waimanu Mothers Club yesterday.

Dr Koroivueta addressed those present during the presentation, especially the Men to always create a platform to try and understand each other at home.

“70 percent of these women in Fiji in 2012, with the stats provided, that they were abused, some were hurt, some were punched and some went through what we called psychological harm. The words that were spoken to them and belittled and hurt them. I believe that we are all equal in God’s sight and we are one. The Ministry believes that in the long run if differences were to arise we should always try to understand each other.”

He adds the Project on conference facilities and cooking supplies, was initiated by the group so that they can be used for hire services, and for their catering business for assorted Events.

“The Ministry wants to reiterate that we stand ready to assist the Waimanu Mothers Club so that they can make money out of this donation and even more money to open other businesses in the village. This is just the beginning.”

The Club has Twenty Five members, focused on activities such as sewing, tie-dye, as well as baking and cooking – to Generate Income for the club.
