FRU Media – After three solid rounds of Skipper Cup action, Naitasiri are proving to be the team to beat with a thrilling final 15 minutes at Prince Charles Park overpowering Nadi 30 to 18.

Suva continue their strong start to the season with a gritty encounter against Namosi scoring a last minute try to secure their third straight win. in 2019 Skipper Cup Competition.

Namosi were solid in attack for the first half, keeping Suva under pressure in their own 22 meter line zone, with the results coming in the 35th minute with a try to the #8, heading in to half time 5-0.

Discipline hampered the start to Suva’s second half, conceding two penalties which Namosi capitalised on to score and secure 11 point lead.

An ugly confrontation between the Suva hooker and Namosi tighthead prop saw both teams receive red cards and reduced to 14 men.

Suva fought back and manage to run across the try line for their first points of the game then maintained momentum in a tight tussle scoring a winning try in the corner in the last minute.

At Ratu Cakobau Park, Tailevu vs Rewa game was also a tough match ending on a 4 points difference Tailevu beating Rewa 25-21.

Rewa scored the first try coming from Second rower Petero Tuwai with a successful conversion from fly half Seru Vaniqi .

28 minutes later into the first half Tailevu Fullback Simeli Konifredi run over the try line getting the five pointer for Tailevu with the converson unsuccessful.

Coming into the second half Koniferedi scored his second, extending their lead 12-3 and in the 51 minute Tailevu Fly half Lepani Seduadua kicked another 3 pointer for Tailevu, and another try from Tailevu winger Apete Naikolo further extending their lead.

Tailevu played good structured rugby and manage to keep the possession whilst putting Rewa under pressure where Seduadua scored their fourth try of the game.

Into the 70th minute Rewa substitution Glen Cakautini made an impact and manage to ran across the try line narrowing the gap 14-25, and right into the injury time Rewa scored the last try of the game with successful conversion but fell short with 3 points, Tailevu claiming the victory 25-21.

In Friday night’s Northland and Nadroga game, it was an intense match between the two teams where Northland scored the first try on 8 minutes in the first half plus two successful penalties through the safe boot of Waqatabu.

Joeli Lutumailagi used his power and physicality to run over defenders into the try line getting the first points for Nadroga with conversion successful.

Another successful penalty conversion for Northland as the game heated up where both teams were under pressure whilst Northland yet conceded another penalty giving away another 3 points for Nadroga.

Coming into the second half and Nadroga settled in their structure and found their rhythm with 3 tries including a penalty try claiming a passionate victory over Northland 40-3.

The end of round three it was clear that discipline within the teams was on the low after a total of 4 red cards and 3 yellow cards were given.

This week in round 4 Tailevu will take on Nadi, Northland v Suva, Nadroga against Naitasiri and Namosi will play Rewa
