16 Families have been displaced after continuous rainfall in the past three weeks caused massive sand and gravel avalanche into Draubuta Village, Navosa in the upper-reaches of the Sigatoka River.

A team from the Fiji Red Cross Sigatoka Branch visited the Village yesterday to conduct assessments and distributed Non- Food Items to the families that were affected.

While the stench from the sand and gravel silt has been a cause for concern, water supply from a nearby dam has been restricted and Villagers have had to make do with water from the Sigatoka River.

The team will head back to Draubuta today to distribute water purification tablets.
