“Be security conscious, your personal safety starts with you.”
This is the plea from the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho as we enter the Festive season in anticipation of the increased level of social activities over the coming weeks.
As police beef up operations in major towns and cities to counter opportunistic crimes such as petty theft, the head of the Force has called on every individual to assist by being alert and vigilant.
“We have increased our footprints in Suva and have pushed forward manpower from Headquarters, other units and districts”.
“We will make every attempt to provide the conducive environment for everyone to enjoy the nightlife in Suva, but we will need everyone to also cooperate and understand that their personal security begins first and foremost with themselves”.
Last night a team of 15 officers were pushed forward from Headquarters to boost visibility and assist officers from the Totogo Police Station.
Brig-Gen Qiliho says officers in uniform and in civilian will be deployed as part of the Festive season operations.
“Criminals will be looking for a quick way to earn money and they would most likely target those who have had a bit too much to drink and this is why we are urging everyone to enjoy themselves responsibly”.
“Visibility will be beefed up closer to and during the weekend and we continue to work with nightclub operators and the business community to assist us with the use of the available technology to help with our operations”.
