“Character will help you gain the respect you will need to lead.”

Those were the words of Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama while opening the Traditional Leadership Curriculum Training in Nadave yesterday afternoon.

Over thirty participants from Korolevu representing the Yasana of Serua for Certificate III Leadership Training were in Nadave yesterday where they will be trained to be better leaders of their society.

The Prime Minister told the participants that character will guide them through times of disagreement and difficult decisions.

“It will help you listen to the concerns of the people and adopt them as your own. It will guide you to lead with fairness and honesty,” PM Bainimarama said.

“We need strong and enlightened leaders at all levels of our society, but sometimes I think we forget what leadership is. I think it is vital that we understand leadership not in terms of command or decisiveness, but in terms of service, of duty and compassion.”

The Prime Minister said that the training programme has been very helpful in opening the eyes of the Leaders of the Vanua to the things that they must be aware of.
