Delaisiana Yauyau is the only overseas-based player to be part of the Vodafone Fiji U19 Women’s team for the OFC U19 Women’s Championship on Cook Islands which kicks off at the end of the month.
Yauyau who migrated to New Zealand last year joined the Sunil Kumar coached side camp last week.
“I am so happy and proud to be part of the national women’s team, “said Yauyau.
‘Fiji is always in my heart and I could not say no when I was approached to join the team and I thank my parents for letting me come here to join the team,”
Yauyau said she was not new to the players and have adopted the changes well in the camp.
‘I am not new to the girls as we have played together before and they have all showed their support once again for me as I am the only overseas player,”
She said she would do her best to show her worth for the team.
‘I know the team management have faith in me and that is why they requested my service which is in my mind and motivates me to do my best,’
“I have been playing in club in New Zealand and with my experience and exposure playing overseas will surely boost the side,” Yauyau said.
The Vodafone national U19 women’s team leaves our shores on Friday for New Zealand where they will stay for five days and will play build-up matches before heading to Cook Island. Fiji plays its first match against Solomon Islands on Friday August 30 at 11am. Their second match is against host Cook Islands on Monday September 2 at 2pm and final pool play will be against Vanuatu on Wednesday Sep 5 at 11am
