“Yesterday’s historic occasion will go down in history books of Waibalavu village because after 52 years of using kerosene lamps and candles we finally can access proper and safe electricity with the flip of switch.”
This was shared by an emotional 52-year-old Noa Rasasauira during the commissioning of the rural electrification project in Waibalavu village, Naitasiri.
While officiating at the event, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said with the flip of switch, lives can change.
“With electricity, your quality of life is immediately uplifted, your people are immediately safer and your economic potential is immediately unleashed.”
“Being here in Waibalavu, I can already see that the meaning of this project is lost on no one: the gratitude in your eyes says it all.”
The fully-funded project cost government $338,000 and 55 households will benefit from this investment.
