Speaking at the 6th PDF conference, Vuniwaqa said the tangible outcomes and efforts of the Forum was being felt in the cross sections of all sectors in the regions and have allowed for Governments to take a more proactive approach at the plight of those living with disabilities.
“The Fijian Government recognizes the efforts of forums as such which has allowed us to ensure that we make real advancements in the various arms of governments to address issues affecting our people living with disabilities,” she said.
“Whether it be legislature or structures that be, the Fijian Government has ensured that it will maintain the vision of Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama to leaving no Fijians behind and ensuring an inclusive society.”
She highlighted the many positive initiatives that have been channeled towards persons living with disability in Fiji including monthly allowances to over 1, 500 persons, housing assistance, educational advancements, and providing schemes to benefit the vulnerable among others.
“It is no brainer that the Fijian Government takes inclusivity with all seriousness and remains committed to our fellow country men and women who are living with disabilities,” Vuniwaqa added.
Participant Noua Teroko of Kiribati said the efforts of the Fijian Government has not gone unrecognized.
“Fiji continues to be a leader in the region and we need to see this replicated in other pacific island states. Fiji already has robust policy and we are proud that one of us has even raised to the position of Assistant Minister in Iliesa Delana (Youth and Sports),” Teroko said.
