Fiji Bati winger Suliasi Vunivalu will play in another NRL Grand Final after his Storm side beat Jayson Bukuya’s Sharks by 22 points to 6 last night in the semifinal.
But it was Billy Slater who stole the show as he powered Melbourne into a fairytale third straight NRL grand final.
The fullback put on a first-half clinic in Melbourne, scoring two tries and setting up another to power the Storm to an unassailable 20-0 lead at the break.
In what would be a cruel twist of fate, Slater could be rubbed out of next Sunday’s grand final despite scoring two tries to help book Melbourne’s passage into the decider.
The Storm dominated a depleted Cronulla last night but they could be without their most dynamic player.
Slater faces an agonising wait to find if he has been charged by the match review committee for a shoulder charge on Sharks winger Sosaia Feki in the 14th minute of what was his final outing in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, the second semifinal will be held at 9:40 tonight between the Roosters and Rabbitohs.
