Three hundred people in Visama Village,Tailevu will benefit from the new Japan government funded foot bridge that was opened today.
The Government of Japan has provided funding worth FJ$175,870 for this project through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Human Security Projects (GGP).
The Ambassador of Japan to Fiji His Excellency Masahiro Omura said in his opening remarks that the project will provide daily commuters from the villagers and nearby community members greater opportunities while ensuring safety and security.
The project is in line with Fiji’s National Development Plan underlying principle which is to promote inclusive socio-economic development. It is also consistent to Japan’s policy direction in the promoting resilience and sustainable development.
Since 1990, Japan has been consistently providing assistance to grassroots communities in Fiji through 374 GGP projects, with the total value exceeding US$25 million.
