To address the importance of tree planting, Minister for Forestry Hon. Osea Naiqamu visited Satulaki and Koromakawa villages in the district of Wairiki in the northern division yesterday.

As part of the ’30 Million Trees in 15 years’ initiative, Minister Naiqamu stressed to the villagers the importance of trees and the importance of fighting against climate change in our communities.

“We would like to drive this concept of tree-planting because scientifically it has been proven that to mitigate the effects of climate change we need to replenish our forest cover and this can be done through planting more trees,” Minister Naiqamu said.

Minister Naiqamu urged the villages to build their nurseries for economic empowerment as the Government will in turn purchase seedlings from them.
