Smiles, tears of joy, dancing and the performance of the “cere “ were all part of the grand welcome from the four villages on Vatulele Island as the Hon Prime Minister arrives into the island.

The Hon Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister for Defense and Policing, Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Hon Inia Seruiratu, Minister for Infrastructure Hon Jone Usamate, Minister for Health Hon Ifereimi Waqainabete and Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Hon Jale Sigarara to visit the affected areas from Tropical Cyclone Harold.

A total of 81 houses were destroyed by TC Harold on Vatulele Island with 180 houses partially damaged.

The Hon Prime Minister also distributed tents to those who have lost their homes including 34 tents in Ekubu, 18 tents in Taunovo, 11 tents in Lomanikaya and 18 tents in Bouwaqa village.

This visit is part of the second phase of relief assistance for Tropical Cyclone Harold.
