The trial of Jone Vakarisi Junior continued at the Suva High Court today.

29 year old Vakarisi gave evidence in court today before the high court judge Justice Vincent Parera.

Jone Vakarisi Junior’s trial is currently underway in the Suva High Court.
He is alleged to have set fire to the property of a man in Nasinu between the 5th and the 6th of September last year.

It is also alleged that Vakarisi with others between the 5th and 6th of September last year assaulted a man.

Vakarisi Junior’s lawyer, Jerry Dinati while opening his case stated that his client was nowhere near the scene on the mentioned date.

Giving evidence today Vakarisi told the court that on the 5th of September he was mixing cement with his cousins at his family home when his wife told him they were going to Cunningham for bible study and when he was done he went to pick his wife and they went straight home.

When asked about the allegation of arson he said he does not know the complainant and has no reason for burning his house.

When the defence lawyer asked him about his thoughts on the second allegation on assaulting and causing bodily harm to another man, he replied he does not know the complainant and has never met him before.

Dinati told him that the complainant said in court that he knew Vakarisi very well since 2004 and that Vakarisi would sell him weed.

Vakarisi replied- he was a form 4 student of Suva Muslim in 2004 and since than he has not smoked a cigarette or weed and also mentioned he has never been charged with any drug related activity.

Vakarisi told the court that he was taken to the Valelevu Police station as a suspect regarding the burnt house. After the interviewing officer took his statement he was told to go home however a crime officer had suggested to charge Vakarisi and that he should argue his case in court.

Vakarisi told the court that he was wrongly charged for the offense .
