Acting Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation – Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete this evening officiated at the Disability Gala Awards 2019 at the Holiday Inn in Suva.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Minister said that the awards night marked a new chapter in the history of Fiji as the “United Blind Persons of Fiji” hosts its first ever Disability Gala Awards to celebrate the achievements of extraordinary individuals and colleagues who rose above the odds to produce excellently in their own disciplines.
” As Fiji commits to move from recognition to realization of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, tonight we acknowledge our Nation’s commitment in ‘Leaving No one Behind’.
“May I take this time to congratulate the “United Blind Persons of Fiji” for hosting this event. You reminded me of the great Helen Keller, a Woman who is known around the world as a symbol of courage in the face of overwhelming odds, yet she was much more than a symbol. She was a woman of luminous intelligence, high ambition and great accomplishment who devoted her life to helping others.”
