More than a hundred visually impaired people have lost their jobs during this COVID-19 pandemic in the Central division.
Chairperson of the United Blind Persons of Fiji, Rajnel Prasad says the society has been looking at ways to help members.
“We have members who were once employed and are now unemployed. Most have less to no means of income to survive on”, says Prasad.
The organization is requesting help from the general public to identify persons with disabilities who have been severely affected. “After our assessment, we have allocated 120 members in the Central division, and we are anticipating the number to grow in the Western division”.
Food rations have been distributed to those who needed immediate attention as temporary relief. Now the organization is hoping to invite in relevant stakeholders and business houses to provide some form of relief.
