United Nations Secretary General, His Excellency Antonio Guterres attended a wreath laying ceremony today, 16th May 2019 to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for global peace.

After placing his wreath at Fiji’s National War Memorial monument at Veiuto, Mr Guterres walked around the monument to take a glance of the names of those who have sacrificed their lives for the effort of the United Nations peacekeeping operations and those who had died in the pursuit of freedom, defending people against aggressors during the First and Second World War.

The ninth Secretary General of the United Nations and former Prime Minister of Portugal also had an opportunity to greet Ex-Servicemen & their wives and current serving senior officers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and Fiji Police Force (FPF).

The senior officers were led by the Commander RFMF, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto and FPF Commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho during the meet and greet session at the Battery Hill in Veiuto.
