About twenty-six #Fijians were bestowed with the 50th Independence Anniversary Medals at a ceremony at the State House by the President His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote yesterday.

In congratulating the awardees, President Konrote said: “those who have been bestowed the honour of receiving the anniversary medals today would share the same proud and patriotic feeling that we belong to a nation.”

“25-years-ago on Independence Day, about 755 individuals were awarded similar commemorative medals and we look forward to celebrating our diamond jubilee of independence in style too in 25 years’ time,” the President added.

The head of government added that he had received many congratulatory messages from leaders of great nations both regionally and internationally and he intends to acknowledge them personally in due course.

President Konrote also acknowledged and thanked all the Heads of Missions and members of the Diplomatic Corps for their presence at the fifth session of the investiture ceremony.
