The National Disaster Management Office, has applauded the seven agencies along Queen Elizabeth Drive, for responding well to the ‘Tsunami Drill’, that was conducted earlier this week.

As part of “preparedness for a Tsunami” – a total of nine hundred and eighty one officers, from the seven agencies participated in the drill exercise.

NDMO Senior Administration Officer Emergency Planning Coordinator, Mitieli Ratinaisiwa confirmed that all agencies made it to the assembly area, within the 20 minute mark and that was the initial target; although some officers from the seven agencies, did not take part in the drill, as they have to carry out other duties.

While responding to the exercise, the ‘Tsunami Umpires’ from the seven agencies – have also made recommendations to the NDMO on the other possible route, that they can use during a Tsunami, and also other evacuation plans that they need to have.

The President of Fiji, Jioji Konrote was also part of the drill.
