True learning requires inner discipline and knowledge grows best when there is freedom to think.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Jone Usamate at the opening of the University of the South Pacific Orientation week.
“This week all students will have an opportunity to meet with faculty members and attend the orientation session to seek academic guidance and register for your courses,” Minister Usamate said.
“As new students you will get to meet other new students and take advantage of the services provided by USP.
Minister Usamate also urged students to abandon the culture of silence and learn to ask questions to increase their knowledge.
“We need people who come out of Universities who do not just repeat what they have learnt but can also think of themselves.”
Meanwhile the event also served as an orientation for the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and President of the University Professor Pal Ahluwali.
The Minister is a proud alumni of the University and encouraged students to take advantage of all the facilities made available to them.
