A “Flash Flood Warning” is now inforce for low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to major rivers in the central division
A “Gale Warning” remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu, Lomaiviti Group, Viti Levu and nearby smaller islands.
A “Strong Wind Warning” remains in force for the Lau Group and Rotuma.
A “Heavy Rain Warning” remains in force for the Fiji Group.
Tropical cyclone(TC) Sarai, category 1 was located near 15.6 south latitude, 175.7 east longitude or about 200km northwest of Viwa or about 300km northwest of Nadi at 7am today.
Close to its centre the cyclone is expected to have average winds of up to 65km/hr with momentary gusts to 90km/hr. TC Sarai is moving south at 22km/hr and is expected to move south with the centre expected to be about 110km west of Viwa or about 170km west-northwest of Nadi by 7pm today.
For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu, Lomaiviti Group, Viti Levu and nearby smaller Islands;
Expect strong north to southeast winds increasing to damaging gale force winds with average speeds of 65km/hr with momentary gusts to 90 km/hr today and very rough to high seas.
Occasional rain becoming frequent and heavy with squally thunderstorms over these areas. Localised heavy rain may lead to flooding of low lying areas. Coastal sea flooding to be expected during high tides if the cyclone centre passes nearby.
For Rotuma and Lau Group; Expect occasional rain, heavy at times with squally thunderstorms. Fresh to strong northeast to southeast winds with speeds up to 45 km/hr with momentary gusts to 80km/hr with rough to very rough seas and moderate easterly swells.
The following information is provided especially for the mariners:
For Yasawa and Mamanuca waters, northern Vanua Levu waters, southwest Viti levu waters and Kadavu and Vatu-i-Ra passage: Expect strong north to northeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots increasing up to 40 knots today with very rough to high seas and damaging heavy northerly swells.
For Lau waters: Expect strong east to northeasterly winds 20 to 30 knots and rough to very rough seas with moderate easterly swells.
For Rotuma waters: Expect northwesterly winds up to 30 knots gusting to 40 knots with very rough seas. Winds expected to gradually ease later today with moderate to heavy northerly swells.
