Community Policing officers from the Southern Division completed a two-day training this week to up-skill police officers with the knowledge of identifying and disseminating targeted awareness on methamphetamine and emerging illicit drug trends.

The training specifically focused on the current trends in the illicit methamphetamine trade in Fiji and in the region including the World Drug Trends.

Topics included the types of methamphetamine, its identification, the deadly effects of methamphetamine, its short and long-term effects and the trafficking and different methods of concealment.

The training will be carried out to other Units and Divisions, and community policing officers have been urged to use the knowledge gained to create awareness and enlist the help of members of the community to provide information about suspected drug related activities.

The training was facilitated by the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department’s Drugs Unit Assistant Superintendent of Police -Anare Masitabua and assisted by a Drug Enforcement Agency representative based at the United States Embassy in Suva.
